                                                                                             May 14, 2012
Dear Parents,
Thank you all for the many wonderful gifts and cards! You are
so kind and generous and everything is greatly appreciated!
Thanks to Alyssa and family for snacks last week.
This week we are working on the long e sound as we did long a
last week. We will look at earth worms and red worms in science and work
on subtraction in math. In writing we will continue with books for each
student. We will spend time with ipads if we can squeeze it in.
We will be beginning to test for report cards. In math kids will
be asked to count,  name numbers to 100, use simple math terms
like more and less, longer, shorter, heavier, lighter, holds more, and holds
less (capacity). Kids will  make patterns, name shapes, and model simple
addition and subtraction. In reading they will read sight words, name letter
names and sounds, demonstrate blending and segmenting of sounds
and rhyming. In writing they will write full names in proper case, use proper
printing, and do phonetic writing as best as they can. In June there will be a
reading test to determine level for those who are ready which is most of
our students.
Check out our "Perserverance" display in the front hall this
month! Six kids from our class will receive perserverance Panther Paws
at the next assembly for demonstrating this trait during silent reading this
 month.
Next week all kinders will enjoy a special astronomy assemby
just for them. June 13th is field day for the entire school. We will need
volunteers or you can just come and watch for as long as you want. It will
be so much fun for everyone. June 14th  we will visit a farm . We would
love to have you come. Save the date. There is no limit to the number
who can come. Permission slips will go out at the end of this month.
When the weather warms up kids are tempted to forget the
rules for school attire. At Purdy, girls should not wear spaghetti straps.
Shoes must be closed toed-no sandals, flip flops, etc. No short shorts
please. Shorts must be longer than finger tips when arms are extended
straight down at sides. Thanks!
If your child has a library book overdue, please look for it and
have them bring it in. Mrs. Cooke has promised a cookie party for
classes who get all their books in. Our last library check out date is
approaching because of the final book fair. All books must be in by
June 4th! Thanks!
If your child has not yet done "Star Student" check the schedule on
the website document tab. If you missed their turn, just put some family
pictures on a poster board and send it in. I will make sure the board is
displayed and that we spend some time showing pics to the class. New
students not on list can send in posters anytime.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO TRACE, KAYLA, AND KENNEDY!
