Chemistry - You can download today's smartboard pdf . I have pushed the test until Tuesday (wed for per 5) but I won't give you time in class to work on the packet from Friday. I will collect that packet the day of the test, so you have this weekend and monday night to work on it. Monday we will be reviewing chapter 15 type questions.

AP Chemistry
-
Congratulations on completing the AP Exam. For tomorrow, you need to bring me your lab book, chem book, and the practice ap test you did at home over the weekend. If you want to get rid of your princeton review, I would be happy to help you there as well :)

Thursday will be a party day. Wear comfortable shoes and clothes, and bring something to share for breakfast. I will provide the waffles.

If you want to get a jump start on the science extravaganza, go to this website and choose your topic. I will be posting the schedule for due-dates on Friday.

Chemistry - We are going to blitz through chapter 15. You have seen this stuff before. Please do problems 3,7,10,13,16, 22, 26, 28, 34, 36, 37, 39, 40, and 53. These will be due on Thursday.

May 12 Monday Before the AP Test

BREATHE! You have worked very hard up to this point, and are going to do well. Get some sleep tonight. Make sure you eat a good breakfast and bring a snack to eat during the test. (This is also on the procrastination flowchart) BRING A CALCULATOR!

Here are the notes from today if you want to review them. Remember to think of the big topics on the ap exam. Look for ways to correlate them to each other. You know the uses of the equilibrium expression (Kp Ksp Ka Kb Keq) but remember what it means when you have a concentrations that are different from the equilibrium. You must achieve balance!

If you have a princeton Review or other book, look over the highlights of each section.

Lastly, don't forget to use NET IONIC EQUATIONS!!!
And I AM VERY PROUD OF YOU!

May 10 Saturday Review

Hello Everyone!
Check out the practice multiple choice problems that are posted all last week. Make sure you give yourself 1.2 minutes per problem (on average) Additionally here are the two notes files from saturday (PDF 1)    (PDF 2)

Monday I will be touching up anything that you would like, and there is a study session after school as well. Please spend some time coming up with specific questions for monday. If there are none, I will just be working most common types of problems. Remember to look at thesefree response and answers if you are looking for problems to work. Relax, but study... (Burl, your 'don't worry' motto should be set aside for the next 4 days) and get some sleep.
Post any questions on the discussion board, as I will be looking at that at least twice tomorrow.

Mr. S

May 9
AP chemistry -
Don't forget that the ap review session tomorrow runs 1-5, unless people putter out earlier. We will be going through a sample ap test, working many short answers and multiple choice. Please bring something to eat and share (unless you are not the sharing kind) Tonight before the review you should look at your work over chapter 14, 15, 16, and 17.  Here are 64 more multiple choice practice questions.

Chemistry - I will give you some time to finish up the partern quesitons and work on the individual questions on Monday. Those of you who were gone can get all of the things you need on Monday. (You don't have to download it over the weekend this time. )

May 8
AP Chemistry -
I understand that some of you are taking an ap test tomorrow. Get some sleep and do well, you are awesome! After you finish, you may want to take a look at these sample multiple choice AP problems3.
At this time you should be focusing your energy on chapters 11-25. Remember that you have done most of chapter 23-25 as ROW Quizzes.

Chemistry - pick up the partner problems in class or check back tomorrow for the web posting on chapter 14.

May 7
AP Chemistry -
Here are more multiple choice practice problems (2). This time give yourself  thirty minutes. The answers are included on the last page. Additionally, here are some great ap free response questions broken down by year and subject in pdf format. Click here to get the answers!

If you were absent and would like the notes from class, click here.

May 6
AP Chemistry -
Here are some more multiple choice practice problems. You should give yourself 65 minutes of uninterrupted time to complete these 54 problems. Don't use a calculator or the tables of equations. Only give yourself a piece of paper and a periodic table. You can check your answers here.

If you have a princeton review, or other study guide, now is a good time to review the section on equilibrium.

Additionally I have created a summary of the things you should remember from chapter 1-10
Although it is impossible to predict every problem on the ap exam, here is a good smattering of what is common.

Don't forget to mark off your calendar for Saturday from 1-5 for the AP Chem review session. We will meet in my room.

May 5
AP Chemistry -
Click here to get the answers to the short answer portion of the sample ap exam. For tonight, you should review the problems you worked in the titration and buffer packets for chapter 16 and 17. If you need those problems, check march 15 and 16 for the link.

AP chemistry -
Click here to get the answers to the extended response section of your  take home test. Here is how your homework is broken out for the weekend. I also have the molecular geometry guide for those that need it here.

Friday
- Click here to get a couple of sample ap questions with answers for Acid Base Problems. You will find the 2 homework problems which are due monday at the beginning of class here.

Saturday
- set aside 90 minutes to take the multiple choice portion of the practice ap exam. Don't use a calculator or any tables other than the one provided. I have some extras in a blue folder taped to the window just outside of my door (the one with the comics on it) for those who didn't get them in class.

Sunday
- set aside 90 minutes to take the short answer protion of the practice exam. Only use a calcuator for the first portion, and give yourself 40 minutes. After that, put away your calculator and do the second portion. Once again, there is a blue forlder taped to the window with the comics on it outside my door for those who didn't pick them up in class.

May 1
AP Chemistry -
click here to get the inclass portion of the test if you were absent. Give yourself 15 minutes with no book or intrenet help. We went over the answers in class verbally. If you need any further assistance on this portion of the test, click here.

There is not enough interest in a study group this friday so I will cancel the scheduled session. I would like to get another session together next week, either saturday the 10th for a mock exam and answer session or a thursday night session. I am also open to doing a session in the morning (breakfast welcome) on the weekdays if that works better.

Due at the end of the period friday.

April 30
AP Chemistry -
I am out today, but you can get the review by clicking on the link in april 29. You have a take home test which is posted on april 29. You will have an inclass portion that will cover a lab based scenario and a question on nuclear chemistry. Remember that the half life of any concentratin can be found using the half-life we did in kinetics (salmon colored half sheet).

I am also looking at holding a study group on Friday evening for those inclined. It will be a structured study session that will go from 6-8 if I get enough people who are interested. I encourage you to bring food...Please email me to let me know. I will post whether or not it will run on Thursday.

You also have a discussion tab set up for the test. Don't stess about it. it is more to find out where we need to fill in gaps for the ap exam than for a grade. I am encouraging you to work together, and you can turn it in when I leave on thursday. (half day, so you can use my room after 10:30 and work together as long as it is turned in by the time I leave 3:00 ish)

Chemistry - Check the events tab to find out your homework for the remainder of this week. I will have you turn everything in at once on Friday, so keep them all together and staple them before you turn them in.

Questions 1-7 and the example on page 497, #21 on page 514,

April 29
Ap Chemistry -
14 days until the ap chemistry exam! If you are feeling a bit of anxiety, Then I am not alone! Don't be afraid of the test! We have 13 more days of review left. If you have a princeton review, this is the perfect time to take it everywhere you go (and read it) There are two practice exams in every princeton review. I strongly encourage you to time yourself on one this weekend. If you don't have a review. I can give you the practice exam out of one. Today we went over chapter 21-25. Click here for the pdf of the noteboard.

Click here for the chapter 1-20 test. The test is due on Thursday. Don't forget that there will be an inclass portion of the test (2 questions) on thursday. One question will be over nuclear chemistry in chapter 21 and the other will be a lab based scenario.

Chemistry - We explained the first portion of chapter 14 (section 14.1) and then went over the problems on your homework. Click here for the smart board notes as a pdf file. I added #22 on page 514 to the homework, and then had everyone continue with section 14.2. Your task is to keep your homework until we are finished with this section (you will turn in 14.1 and 14.2 stapled together) and add in the questions on page 503. You will turn in questions 1-7 and the example on page 497, #21 on page 514, and quesitons 1-6 on page 503 on Thursday.

April 28
AP Chemistry
- The notes from yesterday on the smartboard can be downloaded here. Instead of giving an inclass test, the chapter 1-20 test will be a take-home. You can find it by clicking here. There will be an inclass portion over chapter 21 and a lab-based question. The test will be due on Thursday.

Check the events tab to see the review schedule for ap chem. I am playing with the idea of having an evening review session this friday. If anyone is interested, please let me know during class. If there is no interest, then I don't want to take up a friday evening.

Tomorrow we will be going over nuclear chemistry (Chapter 21) and hitting the highlights in chapter 22-25. Remember that we have already covered all of the material here, this is just a quick refresher.  There should be nothing that is new, we just have not seen it in a while. Chapter 24 covers ligands (metal complexes) and these are no longer part of the ap test. That said, it will be helpful to know what a metal complex is, as it still may be referenced. Page 960 gives the most common types of ligands and the name keys to identify them. If you do nothing else in this chapter, p 960 is the one to look at.
