The kindergarten through fifth
grade art curriculum at Discovery is part of a
continuum that provides diverse art
experiences.
Students grow in their
knowledge of the elements (line, shape/form, color, value, texture,
space) and principles (pattern, rhythm/movement, proportion/scale,
balance, unity and emphasis) of art by exploring a variety of media
and
techniques.
They develop their art
vocabulary by looking
at and talking about their art and the art of others, recognizing
differences, and
developing a sense of respect for diverse
expression.
Students
consider roles and purposes of art and artists of the present day,
in other places, and other times.
Students learn to cultivate individual creativity and
problem-solving skills as they produce, perceive, and reflect on
art.
