Sept. 4, 2008
Dear Parents,
Many thanks to all of you for
helping us start off our new year!
Your children are wonderful and are ready to learn. It is a long
day
for them so we will be sensitive to their needs for play,
relationships,
movement, and music. As of Friday, there will only be 1 teacher in
the
class so remind your children that part of growing up is being
independent, focused, ambitious, cooperative and eager
to help
others. Please make sure you send one small snack that your
child
can handle on their own that is packed separately from their
lunch.
Please make sure they know how they are getting home and send
a written note if you change your regular plan. Keep sending
those
volunteer forms, $5.00 for holiday crafts, supplies, lunch
checks,
office forms, etc. Thank you so much!
ATTENTION! The district has asked us to
pass out the PINK
forms again. If you have already filled one out recently or last
spring
and all of your information is current-YOU DO NOT HAVE TO FILL
IT OUT AGAIN-TOSS IT!
If you have not
yet done so, please go ahead and download the
"08-09 Volunteer Opportunities" and circle which job or jobs
you
think you would like to take on. You will find it on
the "Document"
tab. If you have a strong desire to volunteer on a particular
morning
(maybe it is your only day available) and you want to reserve it
right
away, give me a call on my cell at 318-1074 and I will put you
down
for that day. Even if you both work full time there are
opportunites you
can choose. OUR CLASS NEEDS YOU and your child especially needs
to
see you involved. You and your child are now a part of our
class
community.
HERE IS THE INFO I FORGOT TO TELL YOU ON WED.
NIGHT!:
-Shoot for healthy when it comes to snacks. We avoid candy,
some
may show up occasionally at parties or once in while in some
math
activities like making graphs with Skittles etc.
-Please feed your child a healthy breakfast at home. Breakfast
at
school is very problematic for kinders.
-Kids can do "show and tell" when they are STAR student or if
there
is something very unusual you really want them to bring in and
share like you went on a trip and acquired something from
nature
that the class would be interested in.
-Visits from moms with animals to share are always welcome!
Please call me if you have an interesting animal you want to
bring in. I am already looking forward to a bearded dragon
when
we do letter b and a cat's kittens when we do letter
c.
-The $5.00 for magazines is going to go to holiday crafts
instead.
We had trouble with the magazines last year. If you have not
yet
sent your $5.00, you can put cash in an envelope with your
child's
name on it or a check made out to Pat Harrison. Your child will
make 2 gifts to give to adults for Christmas/Hannukah.
-You may have noticed some lists in somewhat alphabetical
order,
other lists are in reverse alphabetical order-somewhat,
some
who registered really recently may have been put in
vacated
slots.
-Please have your child coming to school looking their age.
Extreme
clothes and hairstyles are a distraction to learning. They all want
to
fit in, not stand out in how they look. Make sure they can
handle
their clothes, if they can't tie their shoes, have them wear
shoes
that don't have ties, etc. If their coat does not have a loop
for
hanging, put a large safety pin on the back of the collar. I
don't
want that beautiful new coat on the floor getting stepped on.
-Please treat your child like a school kid going to "big kid
school."
Let them feed themselves if you visit at lunch(always fine to
do).
Let them walk on their own 2 feet, if you are tempted to pick
them up and carry them-wait until they are out of sight of the
other kids.
-The # taped to their folder is their lunch #. If possible,
try to get
them to memorize it, not a problem if they don't, it just makes
the
line go faster if some have it memorized.
-Yes, we celebrate birthdays! Your child will be greeted with a
card and
small gift, a banner, and a song on their day. They may bring a
treat
to share with the class, store bought is safest ,
remember-always
nut free, no nuts of any kind in our class ever. Kids with
allergies can
keep a box of something (like fruit snacks) in our cupboard for
when
the rest of the class gets a treat.
Well, that is it for now! Thanks again for your patience, all
of the
supplies (WOW) and your interest in supporting your child and
our
class! Pat
